Sacramental Preparation

Please note that all sacraments MUST take place in the parish where the family is registered.  If you are a participant at Saint Regis, but still need to register, please contact the Main Office at 412-372-4577 x 206.

Children usually receive First Reconciliation and First Holy Communion in second grade.  All children preparing for First Reconciliation and First Holy Communion must have completed Faith Formation classes in first grade or attended a Catholic school program.  As part of sacramental preparation, all children must attend a Reconciliation Retreat Day and First Holy Communion Retreat Day. The sacrament of First Reconciliation will take place in December.  The sacrament of First Holy Communion will take place in May.

In preparation, the 2nd grade students should know several prayers, such as "Our Father", "Hail Mary", "Glory Be", and "Act of Contrition.  Please review them with your child daily, maybe every night before bed.  Through repeated prayers, they will gradually learn and understand them.

Children usually receive Confirmation in eighth grade.  All children preparing for confirmation must have completed Faith Formation classes in seventh grade or attended a Catholic school program.  All children preparing for Confirmation must attend a Confirmation Retreat Day in seventh grade and participate in a family service project in eighth grade.  Confirmation will take place either in the Fall or Spring of eighth grade, depending on the Bishop's schedule.  Please visit our Sacraments Page for more information regarding Confirmation.

If you have any questions or concerns, please contact the Faith Formation Office.
